Scripture: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV Application: If the wearers of Christian Crosses really understood what it represents, would they wear it? If Christ Jesus were murdered by firing squad, would they wear a bloody bullet? If by electrocution, a sizzling electric chair? If by lethal injection, a sharp needle dripping with poison? The Cross is not mere jewelry. Should we wear it, we must understand the impact and meaning. God came to Earth in the form of a man, and this innocent man went to His death for the benefit of the people who wear those Crosses...and everyone else. Wear it if we desire, but let's be mindful of the weight that it carries not only upon our necks, but also upon our hearts and souls. Prayer: We do not take Your sacrifice for us for granted, Christ Jesus. Help us be reminded of Your love for us, and how much that love cost You. Amen. Scripture: The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” Genesis 18:26 NIV The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. Proverbs 15:29 KJV Application: Though all have sinned, those of us who have accepted the redemptive gift of the blood of Christ are made righteous. The wicked certainly will be punished, but our prayers of intercession actually do work to spare our families, neighbors, towns, countries, and the whole wicked world from God's wrath. Pray. Prayer: Father God, never let us forget the power of prayer. Please, punish the wicked, but spare the innocent. Amen. Scripture: It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace...Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. Hebrews 6:4-6, 9-10 NIV Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. Psalm 19:13 NIV Application: Though we sin, the Holy Spirit urges us to return to fellowship with God, calling on Christ to mend our ways and deliver us from the grip of sin. We must develop a track record of fidelity. Work each day to live pure lives, repenting immediately when we do wrong, praying for strength to resist the temptation that Satan certainly will put before us. We are saved. We are so special to God. He will not throw us away. Prayer: Never let me feel that I am a lost cause, God. Your Word tells me that I am not. Amen. |
