Scripture: "For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." Galatians 5:17 ESV Application: God created us with a magnificent duality: spiritual and flesh. Both are wonderful, if followed correctly. But they battle with each other, and it seems that it's the flesh that starts the fight. Despite that, we can choose to be led by the spirit. That requires us to focus on things that are spiritual. We should try focusing on the instructions of Philippians 4:8,9 and think on things that are, "true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and praiseworthy." By practicing these thought exercises, we'll have the God of peace and be focused away from the flesh and onto the spirit. Prayer: Father, remind us early and regularly to focus on things that are of the spirit, not the flesh. Amen. Scripture: [Christ Jesus] who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 1 Thessalonians 5:10 ESV Application: We should accept that Jesus Christ died for us so that we can have a place to stay with Him, both now and forever. Become at peace with recognizing His presence everywhere we go, whatever we do, because this is our blessed eternity. Prayer: We make our home with You, Christ Jesus. Welcome, and thank You for accepting us first. Amen. Simple, friendly encouragement
Scripture: 'I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, ' Philippians 1:3 Application: Just a brief text may be all that someone needs to be encouraged throughout the day. Prayer: Show me how to encourage someone today, dear Lord, even in the simplest of ways. Amen. |
