Scripture: "So the woman left her waterpot and went into the city, and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is He?” They left the city and were coming to Him." John 4:28,30 "[John the Baptist] said, “I am the voice of one calling out in the wilderness, ‘Make the way of the Lord straight,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.” John 1: 23 Application: The dictionary defines "evangelist" as, "a person who seeks to convert others to the Christian faith, especially by public preaching." Don't be surprised to discover that the people who are the most effective evangelists probably don't consider themselves to be evangelists at all. That may include you. Be yourself. Tell your own story. No one else is more qualified than you. Prayer: Lord, we pray that we can tell our stories in our own ways and bring Your help to a helpless world. Amen. Scripture: 'All the people crossed over the Jordan and the king crossed too...and all the people of Judah and also half the people of Israel accompanied the king. But the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, “We have ten parts in the king, therefore we also have more claim on David than you. Why then did you treat us with contempt? Was it not our advice first to bring back our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were harsher than the words of the men of Israel.' 2 Samuel 19:39-40,43 Application: There are shades of the Lord Jesus arriving in Jerusalem here, with people lining the streets, as with Palm Sunday, welcoming the coming King. David was the king then, and Jesus later. But there are also shades of sectarianism here. Some people claimed they were "closer" to King David than others, even to the point of harsh slandering. Much the same is apparent even now, with some Christian denominations slandering others over ceremony and sacraments. Needless! Prayer: Enlighten us so that we can be peaceful and supportive of our fellow Christians, King Jesus. Amen. Scripture: "The wicked are estranged from the womb; These who speak lies go astray from birth." Psalms 58:3 NASB Application: Human personality is formed early, and even as children, we develop habits that will manifest throughout life. Unfortunately, negative and evil tendencies express themselves in grotesque ways later, unless we invite the Lord to heal us. Prayer: Father God, please heal us of all evil tendencies that persist in us, and fill the void with Your loving Spirit. Amen. |
